Marlow Festival of Music & Drama

It is with great sadness and regret that we have to inform everyone that Marlow Festival of Music and Drama is closing after twenty-four years of this annual festival taking place in the town.

We have received over 10,000 entries during these years.   Unlike music and drama examinations in which the entrants perform their pieces in a closed room, our festival has given performers the opportunity to perform on a stage in front of an audience of family, teachers, friends and the local community, and be able to listen to others performing.   It has been an incredible and unique learning experience, not only for teachers to hear how their pupils are able to perform in these conditions, but also for the delight and pride parents and friends receive in watching children perform in a warm and friendly atmosphere.  They are then all able to benefit from the vocal and written remarks given by a well-respected and expert adjudicator at the end of each class.  Time is given to technical and musical advice often with demonstrations from the adjudicator.  All of which are invaluable to the teacher, parent and performer.

One of the most wonderful aspects of this festival is to be part of an individual performer's development over the years, not only at the festival, but going on to have fulfilling careers in the arts.   Many have spoken of how the festival had given them a platform to build their confidence and give them the assurance they needed to have trust in their own ability.

We would like to thank all the schools, music schools, drama groups, teachers, entrants of all ages and other organisations who have remained loyal to us and prepared students for the festival year on year.   Thanks are also due to our sponsors, advertisers and the many volunteers from Marlow who have helped enormously to the smooth running of each festival.

The biggest thanks is to all our committee members (all of which are volunteers) over the years who have worked tirelessly, not just during the festival period, but throughout the year to keep this festival going and to make it the most wonderful display of musical and artistic talent in Marlow and the surrounding areas.

The Festival Committee

The committee is also extremely grateful to local IT expert Brian Tibbels, who designed the online registration and entry system and website.
